Mission and Vision of LBC
Mission
The mission of LBC is to apply the principles and procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis to help all individuals acquire new skills that are socially appropriate and functional within their cultures and communities. We strive to make those skills fluent (easy to perform) and generalized (used in different settings, with different people or for different purposes) to help individuals participate meaningfully in their communities and throughout their lives.
Vision
All of our clients, their families will become independent, self-fulfilled and happy in all aspects of their lives.
In addition, anyone who works for LBC (e.g., staff, employees, contractors) or is trained (via continuing education or on-going supervision) by LBC will develop high quality behavioral skill sets and knowledge bases that will allow them to help their clients and their families become independent, self-fulfilled and happy in all aspects of their lives.
Core Purpose
LBC empowers our employees with the professional and personal support to make impactful changes in clients’ lives.
Core Values
Integrity: LBC is committed to high standards, ethical principles, social justice, honesty, fairness, and treating others with dignity and respect.
Diversity and Inclusion: LBC recognizes that the more differences among employees that are present in the agency, the more unique perspectives and bright ideas are developed. LBC strives to not just have these unique individuals employed but to have them participate in our leadership, and in developing policy and programming for the agency. Furthermore, at LBC, everyone deserves the best care, regardless of their race, color, gender identity, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical abilities, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, or criminal history. LBC embraces employees and clients from these underrepresented groups to help make this value a reality.
Focus on Clients and Families: LBC prioritizes the needs of our clients and families in all activities, and commits to the provision of evidence-based, high-quality behavior analytic services.
Dedication to our Staff: LBC recognizes that supporting staff both professionally and personally leads to better outcomes for our clients; therefore we are committed to helping staff achieve their personal and professional goals. LBC strives to make all staff competent professionally by providing them with high quality training on the principles and procedures of behavior analysis. LBC also strives to help employees develop their cultural humility so that they can continue to learn throughout their professional careers.
Advocacy: LBC promotes equitable services and positively influences outcomes, directly affecting the lives of our clients, families, and our employees.
Visionary Leadership: LBC approaches its work with optimism, energy, and professionalism, working pragmatically with "what is" while moving toward "what can be."
Strategic Goals
Social Justice - ensure that all our clients are valued, and their differences are appreciated as potential strengths instead of hindrances that need to be removed. LBC is committed to working to de-stigmatize ideas surrounding the nature and development of ASD within families as well as the broader community.
Professional and Leadership Development - work to develop skills including (but not limited to) leadership behaviors in all employees to empower them to make independent professional decisions (contingent on their position and experience) that will lead to changes that impact our clients’ well-being
Fluency - to develop a better understanding of how fluency based goals and procedures can be used to fulfill our mission.
BACB Task List - to help our employees develop skills as outlined by the most recent BCBA/BCaBA Task List (5th edition) and/or the most recent RBT task list (2nd edition), which will make the fulfillment of the mission more likely.
Methods and Philosophy
LBC’s programming and individual client work is based on two traditions in Applied Behavior Analysis.
The first is Verbal Behavior which is a structured series of procedures designed to teach children effective means to communicate with others. Initial applications of Verbal Behavior focus on having children clearly identify their needs and wants to the world, socializing, labeling the world around them, engaging in conversations. During later stages of development, the focus shifts to labeling and discussing their feelings, developing plans for self-improvement, and engaging in critical thinking.
The second tradition that LBC’s treatment plans are based on is Precision Teaching, which refers to a precise and systematic method of evaluating treatment goals, procedures and overall curricula. Our staff collect data not just on how many behaviors clients perform but also collect data that allow us to examine the rate or frequency at which these behaviors are being performed. Simply showing that a behavior has occurred is not enough – we will need to demonstrate that it is being performed at an almost automatic level in order for the skill to make a lasting impact on our clients’ lives.

Organizational Statement on Diversity
LBC is committed to an inclusive and equitable culture, and is deeply interested in protecting and supporting staff and clients. Our services are delivered to individuals diagnosed with ASD and their families in New York City; our headquarters are located in Queens. There are over 135 languages spoken in Queens; it is the most diverse borough in the most diverse city in the most diverse country in the world. It is within this environment that we recruit employees as well as serve our clients.
Diversity is a tally of different characteristics which employees come to the agency with such as demographics (race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, etc.), learning histories and prior professional experiences (within ABA, external to ABA), strengths (mathematically inclined, artistic, etc.) and overall interests. LBC however, strives to transcend the idea of diversity and promote inclusion - the meaningful participation of diverse individuals in the overall day-to-day functioning of the agency, and contribute to its leadership, in developing policy and programming for the agency and furthering the mission and vision of the agency. All voices are respected, as good ideas can come from anywhere.
In a much similar vein, LBC also defines diversity in terms of the characteristics of their clientele; LBC also strives to promote the ideals of inclusion which are defined as the meaningful participation of our clients (and their families) in their community.
Current and continuous steps to ensure diversity equity, and inclusion include (but are not limited to):
- Continuous recruitment of staff who have backgrounds similar to those of our clients, especially those staff members who speak our client’s languages (i.e., other than English)
- Continuous learning and professional development about our clients’ (and their families’) cultural backgrounds to allow the agency to create personalized care and promote better treatment outcomes.
- Continuous assessment of agency-wide diversity measures and the development of projects to help improve our agency’s diversity standards.
